A bright autumn evening saw the boy’s football team at Wilshere Dacre for the ESFA rally. The games were played in two leagues with 14 minute games, 7 minutes each way.
William Ransom played their first game against Samuel Lucas. This game was slow to get going and it was not until after half time that the boys really started to attack the goal. Charlie sent a great volley over the top and in the last couple of minutes the defence failed to clear the persistent attack and Craig found a gap and slotted it home behind the keeper. A 1-0 win and relief felt by all, both players and spectators.
The second game against Wilshere Dacre saw many tries on goal, but despite many varied attempts to score and a few excellent saves by their keeper, the game ended 0-0.
The pressure was on for the third game as Ickleford had won two games already. The boys were very cool and played some excellent football with Ben finding his strong, hard kick from a distance, to get the winning goal just before half time.
The pressure was really on for the semi-final as William Ransom, the winners of group 1 met Whitehill, the runners-up of group 2. Some joking and goading by Mr Mills prior to the match sent the boys off onto the pitch in high spirits! With some strong players on the Whitehill team Louix did us proud with three magnificent saves. The forwards did not give up, but just before half time a great goal put Whitehill ahead. Ben hit the crossbar in the second half and despite a great finger-tip save at full stretch by Louix, Whitehill managed to put another goal past him to give them a 2-0 win.
Whitehill then went on to beat Ickleford in the final during extra time.
Well done boys, you played some really good football and you supported one another throughout and we were all extremely proud of you.
Thank you once again to all parents who supported the boys and we look forward to a return match at Whitehill next week as we play them in the League.
