Cross Country at HBS

It was a blustery afternoon with sharp showers as the cross country team set off for Hitchin Boy’s School. There were four categories in which to compete. Both year 5 boys and girls had to complete half a mile and year 6 girls and boys had to complete a mile.

The course was walked by all participants and there were certainly many more schools than any other years. In the past it was mainly Hitchin schools but this year there were schools from Letchworth, Baldock and from the local villages such as Ashwell and Offley

The year 5 girl’s race saw Bella get 16th  place, Sophia 35th, Alina 50th and Sophie 51st. The boys race saw Callum arrive back in 16th, Oliver L 18th, Tommy 39th, Harry 42nd and George 43rd.

The year 6 girls did exceptionally well with Catherine gaining first place and a medal, Oryana 15th, Georgia 20th and Ilyssa 35th which gave them an overall 2nd place in their category. The year 6 boys race saw Toby come 24th, Edward 33rd, Archie 42nd and Sam B 49th.

Everyone finished with a smile on their face and showed great sportsmanship as they encouraged their friends both from William Ransom and from other schools. My gratitude as always goes to the parents who gave lifts to the children and then stayed to support under the rainbows. Unfortunately no pots of gold were found to fund our building work to replace the mobiles but we go on hoping!
