District cricket for the girls at William Ransom.

With 19 girls attending cricket club every week we were lucky enough to be able to play two teams in the District round of the Asda Kwik Cricket competition. This gave everybody an opportunity to play competitive cricket.

The weather made playing conditions very difficult. The high winds made bowling very challenging and the wickets kept blowing over. Between getting rained on and blown away the girls managed to play some entertaining cricket.

William Ransom A played three games in their group. The scores were:

William Ransom 214 Highover 242

William Ransom 246 Pixmore 275

William Ransom 268 Lordship Farm 223

With a win and two losses this gave William Ransom A, third place in their group. They played some excellent cricket and lost out to the two teams who went through to the semi-final, with Pixmore going on to represent the District in the County round.

The B team also played some good cricket and their results were:

William Ransom 239 St. Mary’s 267

William Ransom 199 St. Nicholas 257

William Ransom 228 Mary Exton 265

Well done girls you have all made excellent progress with your cricket and we hope that you have enjoyed playing. Next year we hope to recruit some very able year 5 athletes who were unable to do cricket club this year due to other commitments on a Wednesday. As we say goodbye to the year 6 girls, we look forward to being joined by enthusiastic year 4’s as they move into year 5 in September.
