Girls win against Ickleford in the Wix football competition.

The girls’ football team went to Ickleford to play in the first round of the Wix cup. Light was fading fast but all were eager to play.

From the onset the girls mounted a strong attack and Rachel scored as the ball went through the goal keepers legs. Annabel, keen to score, worked hard but sent the ball wide as she tried to finish.Rachel scored her second goal after the keeper failed to clear the ball and looking for a second attempt found the back of the net. With some great defending from Rebecca and Lauren P, the ball stayed in the William Ransom half for most of the first half and Annabel got a lovely third goal.

After half time the team saw Rachel move to defence and Rhea come on for Ella. Catherine had come on just before the end of the first half and was getting more confident; she followed the ball forward seizing an opportunity to score soon into the half. Everyone was a little unsettled by the changes in team structure and Lauren left alone by her defence was unable to stop a very fast attack and conceded a goal. The final score, a 4-1 win for William Ransom.

Well done to everyone who played tonight and thanks to our supportive parents. We now wait to see who we have to play in the next round.
