The William Ransom Primary School completed the cup double this week, as the Girls’ football team won a thrilling County Final. Earlier in the season the team managed to win the Wix Cup for the Hitchin District, allowing them to progress to County level. After convincing wins at the quarter and semi-final stages William Ransom came up against a very strong Wheatfields side and went behind just before the break. They kept working hard and equalised through a stunning left footed strike into the top right corner, courtesy of the Captain. The game stayed level and went to extra time and then penalties. After some superbly taken penalties, our goalkeeper pulled off a stunning save to claim the trophy.
This is an incredible achievement, especially as nearly all of the team had not played until the start of the season. Time and effort put into coaching the girls, by Mr Sears, inspired them to join local teams and helped them to make huge improvements.
