This year we decided to compete at Hitchin Boys’ School for the first round of the indoor Sportshall Athletics. With both a boys and a girls team, the twelve children in each group competed in field and track events.
Field events included standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump. speed bounce, chest push and javelin. Track events included obstacle relay. 2×2 lap relay, 1×1 lap relay, 6 lap paarlauf, over and under relay and 4×1 lap relay.
Both teams worked well in the track events but because it was over two heats it was difficult to gauge how well they were doing compared to the schools in the other heat. The field events are always an unknown as the children are taken off to compete and nobody seems to know how well they did!
It is not until the scores were announced at the end, that the schools could see how well their children had done. The boys gained third place out of the six schools and the girls gained second place and go forward to compete in the second round at Highfield School on Tuesday 21st February. We wish them the very best of luck.
