Information from Mrs Driver

Thank you to all of you who came along and supported Open Morning. It was an incredibly busy morning and there was lots going on! I hope you managed to see it all!

I am pleased to say we have appointed Mrs Lisa Thomas to cover Mrs Mackilligan’s maternity leave from April 2014. Mrs Thomas is known to us, having taught here a few years ago and we are delighted that she will be returning to us after the Easter break.

You will be aware that from September 2014 the government are introducing Universal Free School Meals. This will mean that all pupils in reception and key stage 1 will be entitled to free school meals. This does not mean that parents cannot apply for free school meals and I would urge you still to do this as schools are funded according to the number of children on free school meals and so our funding is greatly reduced. You can confirm your eligibility online at www.hertsdirect.org/freeschoolmeals or phone: 0300 123 4084 between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm Monday to Friday, or between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm Saturday.

We are aware that people who work for major banks are able to apply for matched funding. This has been a great source of income for us in the past and we are hoping that there might be more parents who would be eligible for this. If you think your company does this please contact the school office or come and talk to us and we can discuss this further.

We now have a high proportion of parents on Twitter which is fantastic. I hope you all find this a great way to keep in contact with what is going on in school. However, I would suggest that Twitter is not the best way to ask questions as I cannot guarantee reading tweets during a busy day. I do try to stay on top of notifications but this might not give you an answer straight away. Emailing or phoning is still a much more reliable means of immediate contact.

It has been brought to our attention that some children have been running across roads on the way to school. If you walk to school with your child please keep them with you and if they are older and so walk alone, remind them of the road safety rules.

All surveys must be completed by 28th March 2014. This is your chance to put forward your views about the school.

We are delighted to announce that our Lacrosse Team have reached the National Finals for the tenth year in succession. This is a fantastic achievement and we wish them good luck for June 15th! Thank you and congratulations must also go to Mrs Light and Dain Sears our Sports Apprentice for this wonderful achievement.

To kick start our Sport Relief activities on Friday we will be singing and dancing along to the Sport Relief song at 8.45 on the playground! Please feel free to stay and watch (and join in?)!
