Information from Mrs Driver

New reception children
It’s hard to believe we are already 3 weeks into term and most of us can barely remember the summer break!
It has been lovely to welcome our 60 new children into reception. I have been in reception most mornings as the children have arrived and it is wonderful to see how quickly they all settle! I am sure there were more tears from the parents than there were from the children! Please remember, if there is something you are unsure about, just ask!

SPA Treasure Hunt/AGM
I hope you are looking forward to the SPA Treasure Hunt on Sunday 24th September. We start at 2.00pm and there will be activities for you all to complete before you enjoy tea & cake on the field!

This is followed on Monday by the SPA AGM where we review the past year and welcome new committee members to prepare for the year ahead. Please come along and join us. 8pm in the school hall!

The Daily Mile
Some of your children will have come home talking about The Daily Mile. Different classes are embarking upon walking or running a mile as often as they can, around the school building. We have a track marked out and 5 times around the building equals a mile!
Research has proved that children who participate in regular exercise make significant improvement in their school work and in their concentration and application.
Please remember we are opening the school gates at 8.10 on a Wednesday morning for you to come and do the Daily Mile with your children. All children must be supervised by an adult as we cannot guarantee there will always be someone from school doing the mile!
Please come and join us, it is a great way to start the day!

At the start of each school year I meet with the School Nursing team to discuss our needs and requirements. We can refer to the school nursing team if we have health concerns regarding a child or if we need support for your children. They provide us with training for the treatment of anaphylaxis shock, asthmatics and epilepsy. However, parents can also make referrals to the school nursing team if you have concerns. This can be accessed at: hct.nhs.uk/our-services/school-nursing

Please remember if you have concerns about your child please come in and talk to us and we might be able to help with the referral.
I was also asked to point you in the direction of an excellent new website: healthforkids.co.uk
This is an excellent website where you can find out more about the school nursing service and how to encourage your child to stay fit and healthy.

Please remember if you have any concerns about your child at school, do not hesitate to come in to see me. I look forward to seeing you in school in the very near future.

Yours sincerely
Mary Driver
