Information from Mrs Driver

We have now reached the end of an exhausting term and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support you have offered this term.

Christmas Shows
The School performances of their various Christmas Shows went very well and I am pleased to be able to say that we raised a total of £1235 through the charity collections. This is an amazing amount and I thank you all for your generosity. This will be sent off to MacMillan Nurses and Great Ormond Street Hospital Appeal Fund which the children chose as the charities they would like to support.
As the school continues to grow it will be necessary to organise whole school events in different ways; We were pleased with how the 3 shows all fitted together and filled the hall for each performance.
Some of this money was also raised by the school choir singing in Sainsbury’s on the 8th December. They were a delightful group we took down there and they performed brilliantly in Sainsbury’s doorway! Thank you to everyone who came along to listen!

Uniform
Please use the Christmas break as an ideal time to stocktake on your child’s uniform. Please ensure all main items are named, we still have a number of jumpers in lost property, all un- named! The uniform shop will be held on 5th February, 5th March and 14th May. This is also a great time to have children’s hair cut. Please follow guidelines on the website. We would also ask that no girls return wearing earrings. This follows guidance from Herts County Council Health & Safety, who also agree that earrings can be removed 6 weeks after piercing.

INSET and Occasional Days
Some parents have enquired about INSET and Occasional Days next November. We have provisionally booked the 23rd and 26th November 2018 as days for the school to close. These dates have to be provisional in case the government or local authority set INSET dates for us with a new initiative.

Christmas Lunch
We had a wonderful Christmas Lunch last Friday and everyone looked great in their Christmas tops! We managed to raise £252 for Save the Children so thank you to everyone who took part.

The SPA
The SPA have had another highly successful term, raising well over £5000! This includes the recent sale of Christmas Puddings and Christmas items at the Christmas Concerts. Thank you to everyone who has supported their work this term. Next event is a Family Bingo Night on Friday 19th January; look out for information at the start of next term. Following this there will be another Curry and Quiz night on Friday March 16th 2018. Lots to look forward to!

Families First Portal
We would like to make you aware of the Families First Portal, an online resource provided in Hertfordshire. The Families First Portal (www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/familiesfirst) is a website which helps Hertfordshire families find information, advice and guidance on local and national services for families, parents or carers, for example, information on childcare, health and wellbeing, parenting, keeping safe, young people, parenting courses, money advice, SEND local offer etc. Many of the services are free for families to access.

Roofing works
Our pipework and new heating system is all complete now but our roofing works are about to start! HCC has decided to replace the roof on the old building and work for this starts tomorrow! Access into school should not be affected but watch out for Tweets at the start of term!

The Orbit
Once again, I hope you were as impressed as I was with ‘The Orbit’ –The William Ransom Newspaper! It is a wonderful piece of work and I must congratulate the children involved for all their hard work. I would also like to thank Alison Stephenson and Liz Thorn for all their work in organising it and putting it all together. We are always looking for Sponsors for the magazine as this certainly adds to the quality of the newspaper. If you think you or your company might like to sponsor a future edition, please contact Alison through the school.

Back to school
As a reminder the children will be returning to school on Thursday 4th January 2018. All instrumental lessons will start week commencing the 8th January. The children will be told when any extra-curricular activities will start.

Please remember if there is anything you would like to discuss to make an appointment to come in and see me! Thank you for all your good wishes at the start of this festive Season and on behalf of everyone at William Ransom, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Yours sincerely
Mary Driver
