Last newsletter of the half term!

Dear Parents,

Suddenly we are at the end of an incredibly busy and very long half term. I have never known half term to occur so late! It was lovely to see so many of you during our Parent Consultations this week, I hope you all found the sessions informative.

We have noticed quite a few children still coming into school after the bell has gone. In most cases the children are concerned they are late and we know it is not their fault. Please help your child by ensuring they are in the playground before the bell goes in the morning.

Half term is an ideal time to spend some time reading with your child. Regardless of their age this is a great opportunity for you to question them about the reading material and what is happening in the story. Ask them what they think will happen next and why they think that. As they get older, question them on why certain words were chosen. There is a very strong link between a child’s reading confidence and their writing ability. Therefore the more practice they have with reading the more confident they are in approaching their writing.

If you have a child who will be starting school in September 2014 we would be very grateful if you could let us know. We start tours for prospective parents after half term and we are always asked about number of siblings. Although I cannot guarantee the exact number it does help to have an indication.

The children have all been given information about Smile International Shoeboxes which could be completed this holiday and brought into school before Thursday 7th November. We certainly feel this is a worthwhile project and one that will keep the children (and you) busy over the holidays.

Please remember the date for The Winter Wonderland – Saturday 16th November. This is one of our biggest fund raisers and we really need people to come along and help run a stall as well as bringing all your friends and family along to enjoy the day. There is a rota available with the SPA for parents to come and sign up their availability.

We are now using ‘In Touch’ as a means to communicate with parents. If you have given us your email address, you will be receiving information through this means. If you are not and would like to, please let the school office know your email address and we will register you.

Please remember we are holding another Parent Forum on the evening of 6th November at 7.30. This is your chance to meet with the staff to discuss any pertinent issues. Everyone is welcome to attend.

I hope you all have a lovely half term break and look forward to seeing all the children back on 4th November 2013.

Yours sincerely

Mary Driver
