The first round of U11 hockey for the Herts School Games was held at Hitchin Boy's School on 21st May. William Ransom played four games in their first round. With the year 6 children on school journey, a rather young team was left to defend the title which our year 5 team won last year. With 2 year 3 girls,3 year 4 boys and a year 5 boy, the team were quite inexperienced but technically they could not be faulted.
The first game was against Our Lady and the William Ransom team lost 3-0. This was an excellent score considering that Our Lady went on to win the whole competition. Grange were the next opponents, a very strong, physical team and the William Ransom team lost 8-0. The third game against Stonehill they won 4-1 with Harry and Abigail scoring 1 goal and Rory 2, with some excellent defending by Harry. The last game was against Sandon who beat William Ransom 1-0.
Coming 4th in their group, they went on to play Purwell a game which they won 6-2, with 1 goal from Freddie and Abigail and 4 from Rory.
Well done to Callum and Erica for their contribution to the games and to all of the team for their excellent sporting attitude and effort.
Thanks also to Mrs. Morey who came into school twice and gave the team some of her coaching expertise.
