Our Activity Day

It’s been another busy week in class 1/2 this week and we ended it with an excellent activity day. In Literacy we have been looking at information texts all about sharks. We have also read some fun stories about sharks and we were very lucky to find a narrated cartoon of one of these stories. We watched The Great White Man Eating Shark and managed to find some interesting information in this story (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Z5rsttQDd4). We have also been practising the “ea” sound in phonics by playing a new game.

In maths we have had lots more practise using hundreds tens and units and we also played a game with our partners using the dienes blocks. Our counting in threes has got so good this week, it is clear that lots of people have been practising at home. We also used a really helpful number square to make sure we all know how to add and take away ten (http://www.iboard.co.uk/iwb/Interactive-Number-Square-Integers-691).

In Science we looked at the colour of our hair and eyes and went outside to make a live pictogram, we then came back into the classroom and made our own pictograms.

We have been very excited all week for our activity day and it was as much fun as we thought it was going to be. We started the day by visiting 1R for a painting session. We read the story of The Man in The Moon and from this we were all able to make some amazing paintings. After break we had to work extra hard in indoor Athletics, all taking it in turns to record our scores on the different stations. We did so well that some of us got certificates at the end of the day.

Going straight from Athletics we went to Class R and had a lot of fun with Mrs Light. Mrs Light taught how to do speed stacking. This was very tricky to start with but by the end of the session lots of us were getting really good. Speed stacking is a very good activity to practise because it makes us think really hard about using both of our hands. This can help a lot with the rest of our school work and is it very fun.

After lunch we ventured outside for some orienteering. This kept us very busy as we had to go all around the field and playground to find information and complete tasks. Next we all came together to creep into the nature area, where we were careful not to wake the bugs in the bug hotel.

This was a lot of fun and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without help from all of the parents so thank you very much for all of your help.

We are having a change to the way we do spellings from next week. Group A will be having their tests on Tuesdays and Group B will be having their tests on Wednesdays. We will continue with this until all the key words have been learnt. The spellings that are carried over from the previous week are ones, which have been spelt incorrectly in the tests and so should be practised more.

We hope you enjoy all of our pictures from a very fun activity day.
