William Ransom introduced basketball last year with a visit from the County coach and using some of our Sport Legacy money to purchase goals and balls. Dain ran a club for the first half of the autumn term and the year 5/6 classs started basketball as part of their PE curriculum last week.
A competition was an 'unknown' but the mixed team of eight gave it a try, With short 8 minute games some people did not get much play but it was a new experience. The team drew to Grange,beat Pixmore, the group favourites 6-2 and beat Oughton 8-0. This placed them in the final which they lost on points but certainly not on fair play and sportsmanship.
We look forward to some inter class basketball competition at the end of the unit of work and hope that this sport will be one that the children may enjoy and continue as they move on to their secondary schools.
