The competitive football season is under way

A first League game for our A-Team footballers and a ‘friendly’ for the B-Team at home against St. Andrew’s.

The William Ransom boys looked quite small in comparison to St. Andrew’s boys but what they lacked in height they made up for in energy and commitment to the game.

The A-team conceded an early goal, aught out by a fantastic throw from the side line right to the feet of their forward who took it behind our defence to score. Having been surprised by this early goal the boys switched on and Archie soon capitalised on an excellent ball from Oliver, as he drove the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Tommy also challenged their goal keeper who managed to drop on the strong shot and prevent the goal. St Andrews had several shots wide and over the top and both teams went into half time at 1-1.

St. Andrew’s came out on the attack and a few early saves from John kept the score at a draw, until Oliver once again made a great pass to Ben, which he struck hard and low to give William Ransom a 2-1 win.

The B-team made an excellent start to their game, with many children playing their first game for the school. Calum hit the cross bar and sent a shot wide and Oliver got a foot on the end of a pass from Oliver Smith and sent the ball just wide of the goal. Freddie made some excellent tackles in defence and Rory made a few great saves. It was not until the second half that we scored. Oliver Smith scored his first goal for school and with assistance from George soon scored his second goal. Freddie in a magnificent run from the back hit the cross bar but the score remained a 2-0 win to William Ransom.

Well done boys, two great matches. We all wish the A-Team all the very best in the Early Season Rally which is to be held at Whitehill on Saturday.

Apologies for no photos but some of the St. Andrew’s children cannot have their photographs on a school website.
