The North Herts Tag Rugby Festival

The North Herts Tag Rugby Festival run by the Saracens, was held at Letchworth Rugby Club on Tuesday 3rd March 2015. On an exceptionally cold, windy afternoon there were 26 teams split into 5 ‘pools’. Only the winner from each group and the highest scoring second place team out of the five pools were to go forward into the semi-finals.

William Ransom had 5 league games and no ‘friendlies’ to play so there was no time to ‘warm up’, every ‘try’ mattered.

The first game against Stonehill 2 was a good game which William Ransom won 5-2. The second game against St. Mary’s was a very ‘tight’ game which William Ransom lost 4-3. The third game against Preston was another close game with a 4-3 win for William Ransom. The fourth game against Our Lady followed a similar pattern but resulted in a 4-3 win for William Ransom. The last game was against Breachwood Green which William Ransom lost 4-3. The ten children played some really good Tag rugby, held together by Tommy’s out of school rugby experience, Archie’s speed on the wing and some excellent passing and running. It was really good to see the girls fully involved and scoring tries. Well done to all of the children who played. They included Tommy, Archie, Ben, Oliver, Gurman, Callum, Rosie. Catherine, Lucy and Halcyon.

Thank you to the parents who drove the children to Letchworth and braved the freezing conditions to support. At least the team had finished and had decamped to the clubhouse before there was a deluge of sleet and hail. The sun came out and the temperature rose slightly as we made our way back to school.
