William Ransom 1 – 0 Weston

This was the first game of football after the winter break and it was good to get playing again after the snow and the frozen pitches, although we were not let down by our wonderful weather, and by the end of the second half, we were playing in snow!

Weston were our visitors today and it was lovely to see them play ‘football’ throughout the whole game. All too often at this level teams will adopt the ‘long ball’ tactic just to get the ball up the other end of the pitch, however, both teams wanted to play a passing game and let the football do the work.

The game remained very close throughout, with the Weston goalkeeper pulling off a lot of excellent saves, as did Jean-Claude at times, especially in the second half. The only goal of the game came from Reece, who placed the ball in the far corner of the goal after running in from the right wing. For once, the goalkeeper couldn’t get anything on the ball.

The next game in the league is against Mary Exton and we have a cup semi-final to play against Cockernhoe.

Well done to all the boys, and thank you to the supporters who braved the cold!
