Wix Cup Winners

Our boys’ football team won the district final of the Wix Cup, beating a very strong and very tall Oughton team, 2 – 0, in the final.

It was a very close game and in the first half, Oughton had several chances to take the lead, including a very well worked corner and then another chance that hit the post. Jean-Claude had to be alert throughout as Oughton used the slope to their advantage in the first half, and there were a lot of longer passes going over our midfield.

At half time it was still 0 – 0 and this meant that we would be playing with the slope. Leighton, Harry and Simon, all of whom played at the back at different times really impressed me today and were always looking for that quick, short goal kick. They never stopped playing football. Tom worked from box to box and made some timely tackles, and always looking to play in other players. The other members of the team, Harrison, Omar, Reece, Charlie and Ben all played really well and thoroughly deserved to receive their medals.

Both our goals came from Leighton, and what was really pleasing was the fact that they were both scored with his right foot! (A foot, that at times, he prefers to stand on!)

Well done to everyone and thank you to all our supporters. The Rally is next and then a very important League game against Mary Exton.
