Fourth place for the girls’ cricket team

Well done to the girls who played some fantastic cricket yesterday in the Herts Cricket Festival. Eight schools from the different regions of Hertfordshire competed yesterday at Stevenage Cricket Club. A beautiful ground, with four well umpired pitches, a perfect setting for a competition.

The girls started with a tough game against Breachwood from Harpenden who were a well drilled team, who all bowled and batted superbly. William Ransom girls played some amazing cricket and lost by 1 run. They went on to beat the other two schools in their group by a significient margin to be placed runners up in their group. Unfortunately they went on to play Ralph Sadlier, another finely drilled team and once again lost by just a few runs. The 3rd/4th play off was the last game and the umpire who was also trying to score, got a very different score from Mr. Sears who had been in line with all of the other scorers. However the girls were narrowly defeated and placed 4th over all.

Well done girls, you played some fantastic cricket and it is great that some of you have started to go to Hitchin Cricket Club. Girls and womens cricket is an expanding area of sport and Hitchin do a great job to support those with an interest. Keep playing!
