Information from Mrs Driver

Dear Parents,

We have been sent information regarding the contents of pupils’ packed lunch boxes and this is something that has concerned us for some time. The recommendation from the NHS Good Food Choices Guide states:

A balanced packed lunch should contain:

• Starchy foods. These are bread, rice, potatoes and pasta, and others.

• Protein foods. These are meat, fish, eggs, beans and others.

• A dairy item. This could be cheese or yoghurt.

• Vegetables or salad, and a portion of fruit.

Starchy foods are a good source of energy, and should make up a third of the lunchbox. But don’t let things get boring. Instead of sandwiches give children bagels, pitta bread, wraps and baguettes. Use brown, wholemeal or seeded bread, not white bread.

Please remember we have no facilities to keep packed lunches cold so please use cool bags and avoid too many perishable foods. Children should not bring chocolate or sweets and there is plenty of water so there is no need to send a drink.

Please remember this information when you are sending a packed lunch for a school trip and don’t send more food than your child normally has, often time to eat a packed lunch on a trip is limited. Remember we are a nut free environment and it is important that we adhere to this.

We have been asked by the local authority to send out letters regarding the recent measles outbreak. Please make sure you have seen this letter and are aware of the contents.

We have news about the petition many of you signed regarding the crossing on Wymondley Road. The petition will be presented to the County Council on Tuesday 16th July and we hope for an initial response on that day. If you are yet to sign the petition, it can be accessed HERE.

We have only received 36 replies to the NFER parental survey this year. This is much lower than usual and we want to ensure all of you have had a chance to respond to the survey. All responses must be received by Friday 25th May 2013. Please login to www.nfer.ac.uk/portal to download the survey finished form and use the following school details:

NFER Number: 201527

Project Number: 20100

Password: ZPXQ

We find the results of these surveys extremely useful so would urge you to participate.

Do you know of, or are you a great carpenter? We are looking for someone to make a bespoke puppet theatre for Class 2. If you think you might be able to help us, please come in to the office and let us know.

Yours sincerely

Mary Driver
