Instructions

The children across Pine and Cedar classes finished their English units last week looking at instruction writing. In class, we read the book ‘Instructions’ by Neil Gaiman – a fantasy story made up of sentences that are largely command (or instruction) sentences.

The children were tasked with creating maps for their own fantasy lands as well as instructions for a traveller coming to their land with details on places to visit and tasks to complete. The work that was produced across the classes was spectacular and demonstrated a fantastic creative aspect to the children’s writing.

When the children were finished, they had the opportunity to pair up and read out their own instructions to each other while their partner traced the journey on the maps as though they were the traveller.

Well done Year 2!
