Parent Reading Survey Results Spring 2022

Additional Ideas and Suggestions

  • Book club – we don’t currently offer a Book Club although this is something we would like to introduce.  If this is something you would like to become involved with please speak to either Mrs Tite or Mrs Hall as most of our staff are already running extra-curricular clubs.
  • Book market / swap – this is something we will look into organising for the next academic year.
  • Playtime reading in a quiet zone – we already have this set up for KS1.
  • Reading challenges – we endeavour to offer several reading challenges a year.  The Big Jubilee Read is currently underway.
  • Authors visiting the school – we have had many successful author visits, Jess Meserve 2021, World Book Day 2022 and we have an author booked in for July!
  • Quiet reading time – KS2 classes have timetabled quiet reading time.
  • Book reviews – many classes encourage the children to write book reviews and these can be seen on our reading displays around the school.
  • Library visit – Our Reception classes visit Hitchin Library.
  • Read aloud story time – every class has story time timetabled for the last 10 minutes of the day where the teacher reads aloud to the class.
  • Opportunities for older children to read to younger children – we used to do this regularly pre-Covid and hope to re-introduce this from September 2022.  Y6 has worked with Oak and Ash class this year and Y1 is due to start buddy reading with Y5 this half term.
  • More diverse books – we have recently invested in new diverse books to be used in our English lessons and during story time.  We plan to continue expanding our range of books that explore our diversity and challenge stereotypes.
  • Stamps or rewards for the amount of books read – this is something we will look into.
