Rowan tag rugby tournament

This half term, Year 5 have been learning about tag rugby in PE. Mrs. Herbert has taken both Y5 classes for tag rugby and Ms Rowley-Jones has complemented this brilliantly with teaching both classes a Haka routine in dance. Both classes have worked extremely hard at learning both!

Rowan class have finished their unit with a class tournament; six teams playing five games each in a nerve wracking competition.

Each game started with the two teams doing their Haka against each other and finished with hand shakes, three cheers and each team choosing their ‘Player of the Match’ for the other team. By the end of the tournament we had a winning team, a ‘Players’ Player’ and a ‘Coaches’ Player’ of the tournament. What we found particularly heart-warming, was that over half of the class were put forward for the potential ‘Players’ Player’. Beautiful!

We focussed on the main rules of tag rugby, along with teamwork, resilience and fair play. This has taken a lot of work across the first five weeks of the unit, but came together brilliantly for week six’s big event.

We are so proud of how hard the children worked on this and how far they have come, well done Rowan! We look forward to Willow’s tournament next week.
