What an exciting day we all had on World Book Day again this year!
Our wonderful local author – Lucy Plunkett – came in to read her story with every class throughout school. Dexter is a school dog who has a natural way of helping children through the school day with things like: the first day of term, outdoor learning and the school play. He helps all the diverse children he meets, helping them to feel calm and happy. This story generated lots of wonderful discussion about neurodiversity and the value of a school pet. The children then did a range of different activities to explore different aspects of the story. Rumour has it this has prompted our Year 5 children to write some really impressive persuasive letters to Mr Plunkett, begging for a school pet!
Amazing costumes were the order of the day again this year for World Book Day with crazy hairstyles, make up and even a huge dinosaur.
Assemblies featured a quiz for Keystage 1 which asked questions about book titles and characters and a battle in Keystage 2! Yes – you read that correctly. A battle of the brains between the children and the teachers. This quiz tested the book knowledge of a team of 8 year 6 children and 4 brave teachers. There were just 3 points between the winners and runners up. Who do you think won? Well the children of course.
The day ended with lots and lots of parents and relatives coming in to enjoy some time reading books with the children in their classrooms. Thank you so much to everyone who came in to make the day such a memorable and exciting day for the children.
