World Book Day in Year 5

Another year, another exciting World Book Day at William Ransom!

We had a great discussion about where we like to read; what makes a great ‘book nook’ for us to curl up with a great book, leave our real lives behind and escape into another world? Where is your favourite place to read?

Year 5 had some excellent ideas and are busy creating their own perfect book area to read in. We should warn parents that they had some INCREDIBLE ideas; free from money, time or space limitations, they let their imaginations run wild. Children may be coming home with a few suggestions for home renovations in the near future – sorry from us!

We thought about lighting, seating, drinks and snacks (obviously!) location, theme and how we could design our reading area to fully immerse ourselves in the world of reading. Particularly inspired ideas included hidden doorways, snack vending machines (parents would give tokens so they didn’t overindulge!), chandeliers for twinkly lighting, slides from their bedrooms and a never ending supply of books.

We will post some of these amazing designs when we have finished, but for now, we might all need to settle for our cosy beds. For you to enjoy, here are some pictures of your children loving dressing up as some of their favourite story characters…
