Y6 Science

This term, we are learning about ‘Living things and their habitats’ in Science.

We have learnt about how to classify living things in different ways and this week we looked at the seven life processes.

We talked about micro-organisms and the children were surprised to learn that these too are living things. To prove this, we came up with an experiment to show that yeast gives off carbon dioxide.

In groups, the children added yeast to warm water and sugar and left their bottle covered with a balloon. We were amazed to see that the balloons expanded over time – proving our theory correct.

We also learnt about how we live with micro-organisms in our bodies and how they are sometimes useful and sometimes not! Let’s hope it encourages everyone to keep those pesky germs off our hands by washing them regularly!
