Yr5 Knex Challenge Day!

Year 5 had a fantastic day using their problem-solving skills to build a bridge for this year’s Knex challenge. To make it even more challenging, the bridge had to be a moving bridge (to allow tall ships to pass through) but stable and strong enough to hold at least 50 grams.

After being briefed, the children were given time to design before embarking on the build. We were so proud of how they moved through the whole process; from design to build and then to problem-solve when the build didn’t quite go to plan (lots of resilience was shown today). All the children then presented their final designs to the rest of the class, explaining in detail how they envisaged their bridge to work in the real world.

Our STEM Ambassador was extremely impressed with the range of bridges produced and she also commented specifically on how well the children worked together on their projects. I think we may have some mechanical engineers of the future!

Enjoy some of our photos from the day.
