Our day as Anglo-Saxons!

Year 4 had a fantastic day with History Off the Page learning all about Anglo-Saxons. They spent the morning choosing between a variety of activities from weaving to candle making and illuminated letters to jewellery making. Pottery skills were used to sculpt gargoyles, a pendant mould and rune stones. All of these crafts were interwoven with legends and stories around the campfire from our Anglo-Saxon guide who also took each class outside to train them in battle cries and defence.

In the afternoon, Year 4 became archaeologists using tools to excavate and record a variety of artefacts. They then became curators with each group labelling and displaying their finds for the other children to see. The day culminated in a demonstration where John took the winning design mould and made a pewter pendant from it.
