Year 5 Netballers get their chance to represent William Ransom!

Since September, over half of Year 5 have been attending netball club on a Thursday lunchtime. They have braved the wind and the rain (and trying to hear me coach above the rest of KS2 out on the playground every week!)

All their work has finally paid off, when Miss Swinburn kindly offered us the chance to play as the Year 6’s B team, giving all children who have attended this term the chance to represent William Ransom. We almost bit her hand off in excitement, and on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd February the teams finally got their chance to shine.

We were all very nervous and excited for the matches, against Our Lady and St Andrew’s Schools respectively, and fitted in some last minute revision and practice over the last few lunchtimes.

Wow – these teams did us proud! We were slightly intimidated at the size and experience of the Year 6 filled teams that turned up to play us, but our children did amazingly. Most of the children have only learnt the main positions on the court a few weeks ago and many have never played netball before September! They worked brilliantly as a team, supporting each other from both on and off the court, and working their socks off to do their best. Unfortunately our enthusiasm was no match for the experience (or very long legs) of our opponents, but the teams showed resilience, hard work and incredible team spirit, doing themselves (and a very emotional coach) very proud.

We look forward in anticipation to seeing these budding netballers take to the court in Year 6 and give the other schools a run for their money.

Well done Year 5 – I was very, very proud of you. Here’s to the re-matches!
